Beck adds song to Eclipse soundtrack

Twilight fans can’t get enough of the third movie, Eclipse, and have been packing movie theaters all over the country since the film was released yesterday.

The movie features everyone’s favorite love triangle–Edward, Bella and Jacob–and some great songs on the soundtrack, especially Beck’s collaboration with Bat For Lashes “Let’s Get Lost.” You can listen to the full song by clicking here. Beck’s Collaboration with Charlotte Gainsbourg

Beck finally resurfaces with Gaelic singer-actress Charlotte Gainsbourg, writing all the music, co-writing lyrics, mixing, and producing her new album IRM.

The album’s title is the French acronym for MRI.  Charlotte, who had been recovering from a brain hemorrhage that occurred after a water skiing accident, underwent emergency brain surgery.  The surgery was a success but she was overcome with paranoia that there was something wrong with her, insisting on getting several MRIs in the coming months after word, just to be sure.

In order to ease her paranoia, she turned to music, pairing up the one and only Beck.  “The only way to deal with [my health concerns] was to escape by imagining something.  The sounds inside the machine are nasty to hear.  They’re brutal and aggressive, and rhythmically very chaotic.  But they’re also musical.  I talked to Beck about this MRI idea and made him listen to a whole sequence of sounds from the Internet, and he like it.”

The result, musical bliss!  IRM is available now. Keep checking back for more Beck news!

So, what is Beck doing?

He’s not on tour and he hasn’t released an album in over a year, but mention Beck’s name, and his unpredictable music style and free-associative lyrics come instantly to mind.

One thing that he has been working on is a Record Club where he and other musicians can record cover versions of their albums in a day. The first album he recorded for the club was The Velvet Underground & Nico.

Starting on June 18, the club started posting covers of songs from the album on Thursday evenings, each with its own video. On June 19, Beck announced a weekly DJ set put together by Beck, or a guest DJ. The set is called Planned Obsolescence.
